    Why we started Heated Essential

Heated Essential started on a station platform outside Paris, in January, at 6:40 in the morning. Three layers, a scarf, gloves — and still that ache in the fingers no amount of fabric seems to fix. The problem was never the cold. It was that the usual answer to cold is more: more layers, more weight, less movement.

We looked into heated clothing and found two extremes. Technical gear built for mountaineers — capable, expensive, completely out of place on a commute. And cheap pieces that heated unevenly, lost their charge in an hour and fell apart after a wash. Nothing sat in the middle, where most people actually live: the school run, the building site, the dog walk, the drive home with the heater still warming up.

So we built the middle. We work with manufacturers on pieces that place heating zones where the body genuinely loses warmth — the chest, the lower back, the fingers, the soles of the feet — and we test each one on the days it's meant for. If it can't be worn under a normal coat, it doesn't make the range. If the controls need a manual, it doesn't make the range. Warmth you can adjust, in clothes you'd wear anyway.

    Meet winter prepared.
